“Are you ok?” asked Sarah.
“Yeah. Why?” I asked, dusting off my pants, focusing my blank stare on her face.
“You look… off. Distracted.”
I dreamt of you. You once again made your way into my dream. Those dreams where one wakes up, goes back to sleep, and continues the same dream.
It wasn’t a nightmare, but I had the realization that you hadn’t visited in years.
“I’m miserable…” I say.
You hug me, then leave your right hand on my left shoulder— you squeeze it.
“It’ll be ok,” you say.
We walk shoulder to shoulder in the empty streets of Mykonos, shoulder to shoulder, without saying a word, but feeling the warmth of companionship.
“I’ve missed you,” I say.
I woke up, got ready for school and work… and didn’t say a word. My brain was absent today. I looked outside the giant window next to my work desk, but focused on nothing.
I scroll through my emails at 8:29am… notice I get a new message, but stare out the window again.
I look back at my computer screen and reply to the message— it’s now 10:37am.
“My apologies… I was in a meeting.”
I’ve missed you.
I’m miserable.
